Health & Safety

Safety Is Not Negotiable

Every operative. Every site. Every time.

Our Commitment

Built Into Everything We Do

At Matticks Building Services, health and safety is not a box-ticking exercise — it is embedded in how we plan, manage and deliver every project. From initial survey through to final handover, our approach is systematic, documented and enforced.

We hold SafeContractor approval and operate a comprehensive safety management system covering risk assessment, method statements, permit-to-work procedures, toolbox talks and ongoing site supervision. Our clients can be confident that every operative on their site is trained, briefed and working to a documented safe system of work.

How We Work

Our Safety Framework

Risk Assessments & Method Statements

Every project begins with a thorough risk assessment and method statement (RAMS) tailored to the specific scope, site conditions and client requirements. RAMS are reviewed and signed off before any work commences, and updated whenever scope or conditions change.

  • Site-specific risk assessments for every task
  • Method statements reviewed with operatives before start
  • Updated RAMS issued for any change in scope or conditions
  • Client copies provided as standard

Permit-to-Work Procedures

Where works involve hot works, confined spaces, working at height, asbestos or electrical isolation, we follow formal permit-to-work procedures. Permits are issued, controlled and closed out by a competent person, with records retained for audit.

  • Hot works permits — fire watch and extinguisher provision
  • Working at height — PASMA/IPAF-trained operatives
  • Confined space entry procedures
  • Electrical isolation and lock-off procedures

Training & Competence

We invest in the ongoing training and development of our workforce. All operatives hold trade-relevant qualifications and CSCS cards. Specialist activities are carried out only by operatives with the appropriate certification and experience.

  • CPCS cards — all site operatives
  • PASMA — mobile scaffold tower erection
  • IPAF — powered access platforms
  • Asbestos awareness — all operatives
  • First aid — trained first aiders on every project

Day-to-Day Standards

On Every Site, Every Day

Zero Tolerance on PPE

Correct PPE is mandatory on every Matticks site. Hard hats, hi-vis, safety footwear and task-specific PPE are non-negotiable for all operatives and visitors.

Toolbox Talks

Regular toolbox talks are delivered to all operatives covering task-specific hazards, near-miss reporting, emergency procedures and any site-specific risks.

Near-Miss Reporting

We operate an open near-miss reporting culture. All near-misses are recorded, investigated and fed back into our safety management system to prevent recurrence.

Incident Investigation

Any incident or accident is investigated promptly, with root cause analysis and corrective actions documented and communicated to the team.
